Act4Africa aims to provide a brighter future for Africa’s poor.
A health and education charity, we promote gender justice for girls and young women, to equip them with life skills to be free from poverty and combat HIV. We aim to change attitudes, transform communities and save lives.
Working at grass roots level, we use performance arts activities to communicate key issues relating to gender equality, business and enterprise, sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS. Over 1.4 million people have taken part in our innovative HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention workshops.
Our holistic approach prioritises the needs of women and girls in Uganda’s poorest communities. Through our HEAL (Health, Education And Livelihoods) programme 1,553 out-of-school girls and young women have gained economic independence. They have set up 1,203 small enterprises, enabling them to save and invest in their families and to grow in self-esteem and confidence, giving them a voice and improved position in their community.
We have recently opened a community health and education facility in rural Uganda. Kathy’s Centre provides life-skills and enterprise training, health & support services, pre-school education and a youth club.
