APOPO UK helps to enable the training and deployment of Giant African Pouched Rats known as HeroRATs and specialist survey HeroDOGs to save lives through the use of innovative animal scent detection techniques for social good, most notably for landmine and Tuberculosis detection. Other APOPO innovation projects emerging involves these highly trained animals in search and rescue, detecting soil pollutants, and helping to prevent illegal trafficking of endangered species/animal parts around the globe.
