Ataxia is an umbrella term for a group of neurological disorders. Many of the ataxias are progressive meaning they get worse over time. The early symptoms include poor co-ordination and clumsiness, followed by balance problems when walking. As the ataxia progresses it can slowly impact more of your life. You can develop slurred speech, tremors, and problems with your eyesight. With some ataxias it can lead to curvature of the spine, diabetes or even heart problems.
