EMERGENCY UK

"EMERGENCY provides sustainable, free, high-quality healthcare for victims of war, poverty and landmines, by building hospitals, training local people to be medics, and treating people in need.
What makes EMERGENCY unique is:
Training and employing local people - 97% of our staff in the field are local people
The exceptional quality of healthcare and training. Access to quality healthcare is a human right and should be available to everyone. We provide the same level of training, healthcare, and hospital infrastructure as one would expect in a high-income country’s hospital.
Long-term, sustainable focus. Healthcare cannot and should not be for the short-term. Fundamental to EMERGENCY’s work is building hospitals and training staff always with the aim of handing over to the local community.
Since 1994 we have worked in 19 countries and treated over 12 million patients. We currently have active projects in in Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iraq, Italy, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Uganda, and Yemen. These projects range from Surgical Centres for War Victims, a Paediatric Surgical Centre, a Maternity Centre, a Cardiac Surgery Centre, a Rehabilitation Centre for people who have lost limbs, First Aid Posts in remote areas, Mobile Clinics, and more."
