Free to Be Kids

Free to Be Kids supports particularly disadvantaged children from across London to believe in the power of their own potential.

We specialise in supporting children with social, emotional or mental health difficulties, or those living in especially challenging home circumstances - many have experienced homelessness, domestic violence, the loss of a parent, or other forms of trauma, adversity, or harm. We help these children to change their stories about who they are, and who they can be.

We do this via the power of the outdoors, overnight adventures and nature based residentials. Children who've never left their area of London before lead night walks through the woods, canoe down rivers and camp out under the stars. Children who struggle with confidence are helped to trust themselves enough to try riding a horse for the first time. Others meet animals, climb hills, and learn the world is a bigger place than they'd ever imagined. For those with the highest needs, we use the relationships of trust built round the campfire to offer longer term support via London based mentoring or our year-round 'Journey Programme'. And when children become too old to return on our projects, we support them to train as Young Leaders, returning to pass on their newfound confidence, skills and knowledge to benefit younger peers.

Ultimately our mission is to use joy, adventure, and the deliberate employment of childhood fun, to help the most disadvantaged children learn new messages about themselves and the power of their own potential. Every pound you raise for Free to Be Kids helps a particularly vulnerable child learn a new story about what they can achieve.
